Of all the dwellings in our albergo diffuso, this small house in shades of March green is the one we love the most. We called it Ca’di Pustèn, postini in Pavia dialect, now you will understand why. The Joseph and Laura lived here.
The story goes that they had been introduced to them by “the middleman” of the valley, who was accustomed to facilitating sales of vineyards and arranging marriages, for the people here feelings and land were important equals.
To Laura, after the first shy glance, the Joseph had seemed a good man indeed. In times of war and uncertainty, love needed seriousness and broad shoulders.
They married and never left each other again. All his life Joseph was a mailman. He would walk, at dawn, to the office at the bottom of the valley, fill his saddlebag and trudge up, hamlet by hamlet. He would descend fast, ascend slowly, weighed down by the responsibility of guarding the lives of others in his leather bag. From this quiet and constant affection were born three children, the Erminia, the Mariuccia and the Lino. All with the mild smile and gentle spirit of Mother Laura. All future letter carriers, for nothing is ever lost.
This was a home blessed with goodness, here there was never a lack of extra dishes for people in need. On the stove there was always hot, fragrant coffee to offer, on the wooden table a glass of heady, unfiltered Muscat and two slices of salami with a drop awaited the many friends passing by.
In the kitchen, where you now sit, towered a large radio. It carried the news of a world that was, all too quickly, changing. Laura, in her rare moments of rest, even allowed herself to hum along to the notes of the ditties it broadcast.
Here, we believe that some of this simplicity, the love, the happy memories, we got caught between the walls of the’Pustèn.”
One thing you often tell us when you stay here is, “I have never slept so well.”
We smile, because we know that our homes are not only made of wise stones and plasters, but also, above all, of positive vibrations.

Breakfast
Each morning we bring you a basket of sweet and savory treats.
Because we enjoy to see our guests smiling but still showing signs of sleepiness, like children on a Christmas morning, we will cater breakfast to your doorstep. Our breakfast basket contains many goodies that will vary each day. Maybe a freshly baked apple pie or croissants just out of the oven … Local cold cuts or a few slices of salami, the best we have to offer and almost forgotton. And if you are a vegetarian, vegan or suffer food alergies, just let us know so we can adjust accordingly to find a suitable and equally perfect breakfast for you. But above all in that wicker basket you will find a bit of us, our love for hospitality, attention to detail, the small care that makes us different from everyone.
